Why it matters where we source our wood and paper products from
Where we source our wood and paper products from makes a significant difference to the environmental footprint we leave behind due to the critical role our forests play in:

the regulation of our climate,

the cleanliness of the air we breathe and the water we drink, and

the habitat it provides to wildlife and plants2.

Deforestation, air pollution, and a huge amount of energy and water used – in fact, between two (2) to 13 litres of water is used to produce a single A4-sheet of paper – are all the environmental impacts involved in paper production.
Paper itself accounts for approximately “26% of total waste at landfills”2. Whilst paper is easy to recycle, unfortunately over half of the world’s “paper supply comes from newly cut trees”3.
The FSC label represents our commitment to protecting forests worldwide
The FSC logo sends a strong message to the marketplace and to our customers that we are committed to protecting the health and resilience of forests worldwide. Every FSC label represents:

zero deforestation,

the protection of ancient and endangered forests,

preservation of biodiversity,

fair wage and working conditions and

community rights particularly that of the Indigenous Peoples4.

Retail Consumers Drive Market Demand for FSC Certified Products
Market and industry trends indicate a strong preference for FSC certified products. This has been driven largely by consumer demand in the retail sector for FSC certified products. Consequently, major companies are implementing policies that favour FSC certified products to meet the growing demand of retail consumers.
Government Legislation Prohibits Illegal Harvesting of Timber
Governments are also specifying the use of FSC certified products as part of their green public procurement policies. An increasing number of countries and regions – including Australia – now have laws prohibiting the trade and use of illegally harvested timber and derived products.
